Egg donation is intended for women who are unable to conceive because of poor egg quality or because of menopause.

Age is the most common reason women choose this option. Fertility declines dramatically after the age of forty, and each passing year greatly reduces the chance of conception, even with assisted reproduction. There are also cases of premature ovarian insufficiency, which lead even young women to choose this treatment. Likewise, women who have had iatrogenic ovarian insufficiency caused by cancer treatment (chemotherapy) now have the option to fulfil their dream, which was impossible a few years ago.

The legal framework in our country gives a considerable advantage in egg, sperm and embryo donation treatment compared with other European countries and the rest of the world. Combined with the high standard of services and high success rates, Greece is chosen by many couples as the destination for the treatment that will secure them their dream.

Under the law, every woman aged 18 to 35 is entitled to donate her eggs. The requirements for a new woman to enter the donation programme are very strict, and their assessment is thorough, in order to largely ensure the birth of a healthy child.

Recipients may be women who, for any reason, cannot have children with their own eggs, who are up to 50 years old and have no health problems that would allow them to carry a pregnancy safely.
