Under Greek legislation, men may become sperm donors or recipients. Sperm donors are young healthy men aged 18 to 40 who have passed a strict selection process that includes medical examinations, semen analysis, assessment of their full medical and sexual history, and a series of blood tests to rule out sexually transmitted infections, communicable diseases or hereditary conditions.
Recipients may be all men who wish to have children but cannot because of severe sperm abnormalities or a complete inability to produce sperm (azoospermia).
Greek law requires the anonymity of the sperm donor; therefore the recipient is not permitted to know which donor the sperm came from, and vice versa.
