Hysteroscopy is an important diagnostic and operative method for investigating and treating various pathological conditions of the endometrial cavity (polyps, submucosal fibroids, endometrial septa).
In principle, a magnifying telescope is introduced into the uterine cavity through the vagina and cervix. Using a suitable light source and a high-definition camera, we can monitor the inside of the endometrial cavity in real time on an external screen, take photographs and record the procedure on DVD. Office hysteroscopy, performed in the clinic, is a simple examination that does not require anaesthesia. It is used for DIAGNOSTIC purposes ONLY, in contrast to operative hysteroscopy, which is performed only in an organised operating theatre under general anaesthesia. With this method, we make blind endometrial curettage obsolete, a procedure that carries many risks.
