Ablation of the cervix is a simple method of treating mild lesions of the cervix, dysplasia or recurrent inflammation.
It is carried out using a special electrodiathermy or cryotherapy device.
The woman sits in the gynaecological position as for the Pap test. A speculum is placed and then the tip of the special device (electrodiathermy or cryotherapy) is applied to the cervix and kept in contact for a few minutes.
- It is performed in an outpatient clinic
- it is painless
- it lasts a few minutes
- no anaesthesia is required
- no hospital stay is required
